of distinguished valour , bravery , courage , boldness and daring”
Our country is proud of being a birthplace of great heroesand Immortal souls like Muhammad Ali Jinnah , Muhammad Ali Johar , Sir Syed Ahmad Khan , Allama Muhammad Iqbal and many more who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country . Among them I prefer Allama Muhammad Iqbal as my favourite hero .
“The hero is one who
kindles a great light in the world.”
Sir Muhammad Iqbal widely known as Allama Iqbal , was a poet , philosopher and politician. He is regarded as having inspired the Pakistan Movemnt . He is called the “Spiritual father of Pakistan”.
“A hero is a man who does what he can.”
Allama Iqbal was born in Sialkot I 1877 . He came of a respected Kashmiri family . His parents were pious and God-fearing . They taught him with keen devotion and interest . He was lucky enough to get education from able teachers like Maulvi Mir Hassan and Sir Arnold . He passed the Intermediate Examination from Murrey College , Sialkot . Then he got admission to Govt. College , Lahore . After passing his M,A in Philosophy , he went abroad for higher studies. He studied Bar-at-law and then Ph.D in Philosophy in England. In 1922, he was knighted by King George V, granting him the title "Sir".
"The ordinary man is involved in action, the hero acts. An immense
difference."
Allama Iqbal earned good fame as a poet. He is considered one of the most important figures in Urdu literature, with literary work in both the Urdu and Persian languages, His early poetry deals with love of Nature and love for his country. In his early poems like “Kashmir" he has written about birds, mountains, hills, streams and beautiful scenes of Nature. Then his poetry became more and more mature. His first poetry book, Asrar-i-Khudi, appeared in the Persian language in 1915. His other books of poetry include Bang-i-Dara , Bal-i-Jibril, Zarb-i Kalim. Through his poetry, he awoke the sleepy nation. His poems warmed the cold blood of the muslims and they realized thr impotance of freedom .He remained them of their glorious past through his two poems, "Shikwa" and “Jawab-e-Shikwa". He was pained much to see the muslims in the chains of slavery . So, he decided to take part in politics.
"Self-trust is the essence of Heroism."
Iqbal was elected president of the Muslim League in 1930 at its session in Allahabad. In his presidential address on December 29, 1930, he outlined a vision of an independent State for Muslim- majority provinces in North-western India.
"I would like to see the Punjab, North-West Frontier Province, Sind and Baluchistan amalgamated into a single state. Self-government within the British Empire, or without the British Empire, the formation of
a consolidated North-west Indian Muslim states appears to me to be the the final destiny of the Muslims, at least of Northwest India".
He thus became the first politician to articulate what would become known as the Two- nation Theory---that Muslims are a distinct nation and thus deserve political independence from other regions and communities of India.
"Hero is some
who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself."
Building a strong, personal correspondence with Jinnah, Iqbal was an influential force in convincing Jinnah to end his self-imposed exile in London, return to India and take charge of the League. Iqbal elucidated to Jinnah his vision of a separate Muslim state in a letter sent on June 21, 1937:
"A Separate federation of Muslim Provinces, reformed on the lines I have suggested above, is the only course by which we can secure a peaceful India and save Muslims from the domination of Non-Musiims. Why should not Muslims of North-West India and Bengal be considered as nations entitled to self-determination just as other nations in India and outside India are”.
Iqbal is regarded as the Shair-e-Mashriq ("Poet of the East"). He is also called Mufakkir-e-Pakistan ("The Thinker of Pakistan”), Musawar-e-Pakistan ("Artist of Pakistan”) and Hakeem-ul-Ummat ("The Sage of the Ummah"). The Pakistan government officially named him a "National Poet”.
This great poet left us alone sobbing in 1938. We are greatly indebted to this great poet who changed the course of our history . He was buried in Lahore beside the Badshahi Mosque.
"True heroism
consists in being superior to the ills of life, in whatever shape they may challenge us to combat.”
